Why you should join Pod Protection
Every year, thousands of whales and dolphins are cruelly slaughtered for meat and other body parts and products. Others are trapped in nets, poisoned by chemicals or forced to perform tricks in captivity. As a Pod Protector, your monthly gifts will help us save them.
By giving £1 each week, you’ll be helping to fund our national and international campaigns and conservation projects. With your help we will protect countless whales and dolphins by pressing for achievements like these:
- Whaling: We helped keep the global ban on commercial whaling in place – defeating pressure from Japan, Norway and Iceland for it to be lifted.
- Whale Trade: We helped to keep restrictions on international trade in whale products, blocking attempts to resume it.
- Fishing Nets: We helped prevent the use of gill nets to protect the most endangered large whale – the North Atlantic right whale – during the calving season.
- Dolphins in Captivity: We helped keep Croatia and the Caribbean island of St Maarten free of captive dolphins, persuading their governments not to allow dolphinariums.
- Protection: We secured a groundbreaking agreement to create a whale and dolphin sanctuary in the seas around the Pacific Islands.
