Making a Will is one of the most important and positive things you can do

Three dolphins © Ingrid N. VisserIt is a vital opportunity to ensure that your property and possessions are left to the people you love and the causes that you believe in.

You can write your own will if you wish but WDCS would always advise you to consult a solicitor to ensure that it is valid. In doing so you will avoid any unnecessary problems for your loved ones and you can be safe in the knowledge that your wishes will be carried out as you had intended.

There are several different types of bequests that you can leave to family, friends and the causes that you believe in:

Pecuniary Legacy

If you choose this option you will be leaving a gift of a fixed sum of money.

If you would like to leave a Pecuniary gift to WDCS we would suggest the following wording:

I give to WDCS, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (Registered Charity Number 1014705), of Brookfield House, 38 St Paul Street, Chippenham, Wiltshire, SN15 1LJ, the sum of £ [ ] to be used by WDCS at its discretion. I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director, or appropriate Officer, shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.

Specific Legacy

This is a gift of a specific item, such as a house, car, painting, ornament or a piece of jewellery etc.

If you would like to leave a Specific gift to WDCS we would suggest the following wording:

I give to WDCS, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (Registered Charity Number 1014705), of Brookfield House, 38 St Paul Street, Chippenham, Wiltshire, SN15 1LJ, the gift of [specified item] to be used by WDCS at its discretion. I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director, or appropriate Officer, shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.

Residuary Legacy

The residue of your Estate is the amount left once all debts and expenses have been deducted, and the pecuniary and specific gifts have been made.

If you would like to leave a Residuary gift to WDCS we would suggest the following wording:

I give to WDCS, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (Registered Charity Number 1014705), of Brookfield House, 38 St Paul Street, Chippenham, Wiltshire, SN15 1LJ, the residue (or % share of the residue) of my Estate to be used by WDCS at its discretion. I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director, or appropriate Officer, shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
