London Marathon 2009 - Sunday 26th April
Congratulations if you've snapped up a place in the world's best marathon!
We would be delighted to have you join Team WDCS and run for whales and dolphins. We will provide a fundraising pack, help you create and use your own online-fundraising page, and help you to promote what you are doing locally. We will also supply a personalised running T-shirt or vest, and healthy snacks for on the day!
TV presenter Nigel Marven ran the London Marathon 2008 for WDCS and had this to say:
“I'm really elated to have completed the London Marathon for WDCS in 4 hours 4 mins! As a presenter and producer of wildlife films I have had the privilege of traveling around the world and seeing some of the planet’s most magnificent animals.
Sadly, some of the UK’s most loved animals, the bottlenose dolphins of the Moray Firth, are now under serious threat. This small and vulnerable group of dolphins face many dangers, including the government potentially allowing oil and gas exploration inside a special sanctuary set up to protect them. I want to do what I can to protect these animals, which is why I decided to run the London Marathon and raise as much money as I can to help WDCS in their campaign to Protect Our Dolphins.”
If you didn't snap up a Flora London Marathon place in the ballot, don't be too disheartened and definitely don't stop training! There is still a chance you could be joining the crowds in the capital next year…..
We would recommend that you register for the new BUPA London 10,000 race - http://www.london10000.co.uk or the BUPA Great Capital Run - http://www.greatrun.org instead.
Please contact Mandie at events@wdcs.org or telephone 01249 449552 if you have a place for the London Marathon or secure a place for either of the races above, and would like to run for whales and dolphins.
