Information about WDCS adoption programmes

Will I be my dolphin or whale’s only adopter?

WDCS adopt a dolphin is a co-sponsorship scheme with a number of people adopt each dolphin and whale. Your money will go towards helping to protect whales and dolphins around the world.

Can I adopt a dolphin or whale as a gift for someone else?

Yes you can and it’s really easy. If you would like to adopt online, just follow the simple instructions. The gift receiver will then receive the adoption pack, magazines and e-newsletters. If completing the paper form, complete your details and the gift receivers details.

How often will I hear news about my dolphin?

We’ll send you updates four times a year; plus if you pay by direct debit you’ll receive a monthly email newsletter with lots of photos and news about the dolphins of the Moray Firth.

How often will I hear news about my whale?

We’ll send you WDCS magazine four times a year which has lots of information about our work and our achievements. An update on your whale will be sent to you every six months.

I want to adopt but I don't have a bank account. How can I pay?

While Direct Debit is the cheapest and easiest way of making your contributions, you can also pay via the post by cheque or online by credit card.

What is my money used for?

Your contributions are used to help protect whales and dolphins around the world.

Do you send out donation reminders?

We try to contact sponsors we have not heard from but it costs us less in administration costs if you sponsor by direct debit - this also helps us to plan our funds for the future.

Do I send the details of my Direct Debit to the bank?

No. If you are completing the Direct Debit form online, please press the ‘finish’ button, and we will instruct your bank for you.

Do I need to give you my email address?

If you adopt a dolphin by Direct Debit, you’ll be able to receive the monthly adopt a dolphin email newsletter.  Therefore, to ensure you receive this, we will need your email address.

Do I need to give you my telephone number?

You do not have to supply us with your telephone number but by doing so it will allow us to contact you with any future WDCS information.

Why do I need to give my date of birth?

This will help us to know more about you and send you news from WDCS that will be relevant to you (e.g. we try to exclude children from our mailings).

I am having difficulties setting up my adoption.

Please contact the adoption hotline on 01249 449 500 and we'll be happy to help you set up your adoption.
