Join our campaign to protect the unique and threatened Moray Firth dolphins.
In December 2007, the Government announced that it was likely to allow oil and gas development in a Special Area of Conservation designated for the protection of the dolphins. With the help of local people, our supporters, and the backing of 25 of the world’s top experts, we strongly protested throughout 2008 that the oil and gas plans posed an unacceptable threat to these vulnerable dolphins, delivering almost 18,000 signatures to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (BERR at the time.)
Our campaign efforts are paying off as the DECC has agreed not to carry out any seismic survey activity in the Moray Firth in 2009.
The Government has also agreed to fund independent research and to work with WDCS and other stakeholders to demonstrate the impact that oil and gas activity would have. They have to demonstrate that such activity will have ‘no adverse impact’ on the dolphins. This is a huge step forward for our campaign and we’d like to thank all of you who have supported it – you have made a huge difference.
We still have a long way to go before this issue is resolved and we need your support more than ever. We must convince the Government that the dolphins should be protected. Learn more about our campaign and how you can help by clicking on the links below.
“We need as many people as possible to support WDCS and their campaign to protect these amazing animals for good!”
