Wild orca Morgan's shocking new wounds at Loro Parque

Morgan's deep laceration wounds.

Shocking new images are coming out of Tenerife’s Loro Parque showing Morgan, the wild Norwegian orca ‘rescued’ from the Wadden Sea in 2010, getting repeatedly rammed and bitten by the other animals held there. Her body now has deep laceration wounds as other orcas in her tank show dominance over her.

Morgan spends a lot of her time in a shallow side pool with Adan, a hand-reared two year old, and away from the other animals - a sign that she has not been accepted by the other orcas. Adan’s mother, who was made pregnant at just seven years of age, is now expecting another calf later this year. This new addition to Loro Parque, if it survives, will bring the total number of orcas held to seven and concern remains as to what will happen to Morgan and Adan as ‘their’ small, medical pool will be needed for the new mother. In the wild, incidentally, a female’s first calf is usually born at around 13 years.

While the four original orcas (Kohana, Keto, Tekoa, Skyla) sent to Loro Parque in 2006 all belong to Sea World, questions still remain as to who ‘owns’ Adan and Morgan and this issue will be key if Loro Parque or Sea World ever try to relocate them.

In February Morgan debuted in her first circus-style show performing tricks for the paying public. So much for education, science and natural behaviour!

So, to Dutch State Secretary, Henk Bleker, Dutch Appeal Judge, M. de Rooij and other members of the Dutch judiciary who thought sending Morgan to live in a concrete tank with this highly unstable, dysfunctional group of orcas was her best option rather than be given a chance to return to the wild, SHAME ON YOU!

she spends time with ALL the orcas. she spends time in EVERY POOL, AND wild orcas have that marks too. there was no option on rehabilitating her from the rescue team (killing or moving). the free morgan was created by a few people that know nothing about her.

    Indeed shame on you!
The people who had to make the dissision where clearly ore not aware of the fact that the we going to use her like this or they where handed lots of money!
Cause when there is money in the game people dont think straight! Lets say we make a team and pul a free willie stunt! Just loading them all up and put them back in the water! Ore at least the to young ones cause they still have a chance if we can find her family!

But for real, lets put the resonsible people in the tank with them and just see what happens haha! Start a petition or just raise money to buy her! Why can't there be anything to do for that por little girl!

Yes, Shame on anybody who says they "own" an Orca or any other animal. They may be a caretaker, but every single one of the wonderful creatures we are blessed with on earth are owned by God and Nature!! We dont own them, they are gifts to us, for a short time, on loan and we are responsible, we have an honorable duty to extend to them at each and every turn and pace!!!! Ownership is about man's arrogance, stewardship is about man's reverence! Morgan needs our reverence now!!

Hello, I am a photographer and retcnely visited the Hakai Pass region of BC on a sport fishing trip. During my trip I observed an extraordinary display of hunting and feeding behavior by a small pod of 4 orcas. They included a large male, a mature female, and two younger whales. I took many photographs and would like to share them with someone who may be studying orca whales in this area. Can you direct me to an appropriate researcher? With thanks in advance and please keep up the good work.

    Disgraceful!!!
Maybe you should see them here in the San Juan Islands, WA. then you might think different about owning a majestic animal!

So I feel very ashamed about my country NL..(We are ruled by some psychopats who do everything for money)
Morgan was selled to this HORROR park whithout any family of her..A year ago here in North Sea, there where a few orca's (her family) to pick her up..They could easily releashed her then.
But it's all for the money..
So FREE MORGAN TO LIVE WITH HER FAMILY!!

  7. marilyn dilliard says:

Steven, you are so right those fabulous animals should change anyone's mind if they actually cared about anything except themselves. Problem is these people have no morals and no conscience.

  8. Drastic says:

When were these pictures taken ? It's obvious that the animal must have undergone an adjustment time with other animals sharing the space. Orcas can be quite fearful, so I guess it should not come as a surprise that the fight. Would really like to know what is the situation now and if experts believe it is a risk to send her back into the sea.

  9. Jennifer Hagens says:

The people who made the decision is Minister Bleker. He knew damn well what he was selling Morgan into!!!
But hé, if you can make 350.000 euro over the back of an innocent animal..
    I hate BLEKER!!!!
He needs to be put out of government!! BAHBAH BAH!
Dolfinarium Harderwijk knew very well that they didn't "rescue" Morgan, they only made her wel to SELL her!!
SET HER FREE WITH HER FAMILY IN NORWAY!!!!

  10. Mischief says:

I find Morgan's story really upsetting and to read that she hasn't been accepted by the others is horrible. She should have been released back to her family there is no reason for her to be there, mind you none of them should be kept in captivity. 'own' an orca???? thats just co-operations trying to put a stamp on a wild animal, bet when they see the whales in the tank all they see is the profits they are going to make from them. I hope Morgan does finally get released, she doesn't deserve to be kept captive but then no animal does its just cruel

  11. Isee says:

Can you all see what happened here? Because of all the negitive comments during the hearing and The Judge loosing control of his Court Room he had to get even. This is known as displaced anger. So he demands this beautiful animal belonging only to God to be punished and put into exile for life. Eventually the animal will die and the Jugde will remain heartless.
