Day dreams turn to nightmares
Okay, so my daydreams turn out to be pretty mild compared withe the nightmare the US have unleashed upon us in the form of the 'deal' or the 'package' on commercial whaling.
Not only does the proposal reward the whalers for their blackmail it actually tries to lie to the world by claiming that it 'keeps the moratorium on commercial whaling'
I say this is a lie as what the proponents mean is that they shall keep the language of the moratorium in the official text of the IWC Schedule, but close their eyes and hand commercial whaling quotas to the whalers with the other hand. There rhetoric is a lie, nothing more than a lie.
The Chairman and the Vice Chair have put forward a Schedule amendment, which I am not even sure is legal, as countries as Parties are normally the only ones who can put forward such proposals. Please someone let me know, but to try and convince us that the mortatorium that some many have sacrificed to achieve and then maintain will still stand under this new regime is a fabrication beyond belief.
The proponents of this deal should hold their heads in shame; they have asked nothing of the whalers and everything of the whales and the rest of us.
So what does this teach us. If you are a nation and you don't like conservation measures that the rest of the world agrees too, then just be intransigent and don't give away anything. Norway is the great proponent of this as the deal actually gives them a higher quota than the number of whales than they are actually catching.
So this is the lesson. Rape the oceans to your hearts content and eventually you will get a pat on the back for it. Remind me to ensure my children don't seek to learn anything from the IWC or the US.
